Rebuilding Europe post-COVID-19: How to ensure the recovery and the future for next EU generations?
In November 2020, the European Parliament and EU Member States in the Council of the European Union agreed on the next long-term budget and the additional COVID-19 recovery fund called ‘Next Generation EU’. Combined, the Multiannual Financial Framework (MMF) 2021-27 and the temporary recovery fund comprise €1.8 trillion, which makes it the largest package ever financed through the EU budget.
It is intended to support Europe’s recovery from the pandemic and to build a greener, more digital and more resilient Europe that is fit for future challenges. Among the changes to the original proposal the European Parliament secured an additional €15 billion for flagship programmes such as an extra €2.2 billion for Erasmus+, reaching 26 billion, and an extra €0.6 billion for Creative Europe, reaching 2.2 billion.
